Have you’ve been “BOOed”? Likely you are here because you just got “BOOed” and now you are wondering what this is all about or you want to start the tradition this year within your neighborhood. Either way you are in the right spot. Your kiddos will love helping by sneaking around the neighborhood to spread fun to others. Although I must admit, my kids try to be sneaky but quiet is not in their vocabulary.
HOW TO “BOO” YOUR NEIGHBOR
Usually this is seen in neighborhoods but sometimes it will occur in a workplace or school too. Think of it as a Fall version of the secret Santa tradition. So to start, one neighbor secretly leaves a small gift basket on another neighbor’s doorstep. The gift basket can be whatever you like, so don’t stress out here. Inside the basket, you will include the BOO poem and instructions on how to pass along the fun. I found these super cute free printables from Mama Cheaps.
The lucky Boo-ee will be asked to post the sign “We’ve Been BOOed” at their front door. This will alert others that they already participated in the fun. Then they will leave a duplicate version of the poem, instructions, and gift basket at two more houses. Over the next several days, you will notice a ripple effect as the signs begin to multiply like magic from door to door.

If you scroll through the internet for a hot minute after googling this idea, there will be a flurry of ideas that pop up about this tradition. So, you are ready to dive into the fun but need ideas for your own gift basket and what to include. Look no further. Ultimately, it is the thought that counts. The kids that discover these baskets of goodies on their front doorstep will be so filled with joy that it doesn’t matter what is inside. If you need help coming up with ideas then first start thinking about the family you intend to give the basket too. Do they have girls or boys? Do some kids have food allergies? What are their ages? Then head to the dollar store, Target, or local grocery store to get a basket or bucket and some small surprises for each kid.

My boys and I ventured out to the grocery store to gather our supplies this year. Taking three boys to the grocery store deserves an award in my opinion. This is what we came up with.
Once you have everything ready to go, you can wrap it all up in plastic or leave it the way that it is. This year we decided to wrap ours up in that fake spider web stuff. It worked out great because they actually dropped it when running it up to a neighbors door and everything stayed in it. I call that a win!
