It is hard to believe that Summer is right around the corner. With the groundhog not seeing his shadow and all the warmer temperatures lately, our family is excited to get outside again soon. Every year at this time, we start signing up for summer camps and activities. Believe it or not most places start opening their registration right now in February.
Fort Wayne has no shortage of summer camp opportunities and your kids could enjoy their summer even more with all these fun experiences. Does your child like sports, arts & crafts, or other themed camping? Whatever their preference is, I have a list of some of the available camps in the area for you all to pick from.
Kids For Nature Summer Camp
Sign up for a week of adventures while exploring the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. Go behind the scenes, meets the zoo keepers, learn about the animals, and enjoy craft time. All three of our boys go every year and love it! Definitely one we can’t do without. Camps are for ages 3 (with adult) to age 12. Registration starts February 5, 2020 and spaces fill up fast.
YMCA Summer Day Camps
Check with your local YMCA for summer camp opportunities. There is something for everyone with sports, arts, cheerleading, gymnastics, and even traditional camps. We have done the traditional camps for the last several years and both boys said that the crafts, games, and swimming are their favorite parts. Registration starts here on February 1st, 2020.
YMCA Camp Potawotami
Your kids can enjoy an overnight camping experience and make new friends. Camps are for ages 6-8 (mini camp) to ages 14-16 and include all the fun outdoor adventures. Our boys enjoyed their first overnight mini camp experience with tons of stories to tell. I personally enjoyed seeing pictures posted to the parents during their stay. Farmin’ Fun Day Camp
Get hands on experiences with farming, animal care, blacksmithing and more at Salomon Farms. New this year is a farm-to-table teaching kitchen. Minimum age starts at 4 years old to 12 years plus. Registration Begins February 5th, 2020.
Franke Park Day Camp
Get back to nature while learning valuable camping skills, nature education, and Native American lore. The kids will enjoy outdoor fun with friends while getting dirty in the food old outdoors. For ages 4-11 years old. Visit Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation to register starting February 5th, 2020.
City Safari Day Camp
Campers can enjoy a different theme each week while exploring in and outside the City of Fort Wayne. Children must be of age 6 by June 1st, 2020 and registration starts on February 5th, 2020 at Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory.
Science Central
Help stop the summer brain drain with interactive learning camps about astronauts, robotics, geologists, and many more STEM options. There are half day and full day options for kids from ages 5 – 13 years old. Registration is open for summer 2020 at www.sciencecentral.org.
Vacation Bible School
Most local churches offer a Vacation Bible School for a week during the summer. You child will be immersed in the word with bible learning experiences. They will learn new songs, participating in team building games, and create crafts to name a few of the standout activities that help them grow in their own faith. Check with your local church for dates and times.
Camp Red Cedar
Enjoy the great outdoors with this camp packed full with tons of activities. Some of the activities include horseback riding, canoeing, hiking, swimming, boating, and more. There are camps available for all kids including those with disabilities and ages 6-12. Registration is now open at Camp Red Cedar.
Game Day Sports Camp
Is your child interested in sports? Check out the camp options for several different sports like basketball, soccer, volleyball, flag football, baseball, and track. There are even arts & crafts camp options available for those where sports just isn’t their thing. Check out the website for more details.
Wellspring’s Youth Day Camp
This day camp is available for ages 4-17 during a six- week period. There are tons of daily learning activities like math, reading, dance, field trips, and more. Check out the Wellspring’s website for more information.
Camp Agnes S. McMillen
This Girl Scout camp offers tons of outdoor experiences including but not limited to zipline courses, ropes courses, hiking, and a climbing tower. There are several options for sleeping arrangements to suit each camper. Contact Camp Agnes S. McMillen for more details.
Camp Chief Little Turtle
This scout camp is available for units to reserve a campsite location. They offer programs in Aquatics, Climbing, High Ropes Courses, 1st Year Campers, Shooting Sports, Ecology, and many more. Check out the site for more camp information.
Camp Lutherhaven
A Christian camp experience available for families and individuals. The themed camp options combines all the summer outdoor activities with the opportunity to grow your relationship with Jesus Christ. Registration begins soon so check the website for additional information.
Rock Camp at Sweetwater
A camp for aspiring musicians ready to write and produce their own camp songs. This camp is for ages 12- 18 and beyond the beginner stages of their music career. Registration has already begun so check out Sweetwater Academy to pick a week to join.
