As Valentine’s Day draws near give your home some romantic touches. For me, I never really celebrated this holiday much until I had kids. After all the fun of Christmas, Valentine’s Day just felt empty like it needed something. Plus I needed a way to chase away the winter blues. Decorating with love of reds, pinks, and fresh flowers definitely did the trick.
I tend to lean toward more of a farmhouse style in my decor. Although I must admit, it was harder to find items for this holiday than others. So I searched more handmade options from sites like Etsy or from unique local stores.
Here are a few inspirational photos of areas around our home.
Fireplace Mantle
The mantle is the focal point of the home and usually the first place that I would focus on. I had to search high and low for these decorations. Some of my favorite pieces were the buffalo plaid and heart banner from March & May Designs and the heart string garland from Mathew and Mae. TrestleGlen Treasures made this adorable little book stack. Finally, the remaining items were purchased from stores like Joann’s, Michael’s, and Kirklands.
Entryway Table
This is always the first thing people see as they enter your house. For me, I want it to be warm and inviting. These decorations mostly came from Gordmans and Marshalls. My favorite was the beaded tassel garland from Target.
Two-Tiered Tray
I started decorating this tray for all the major holidays like Fall, Christmas, and now Valentine’s Day. The possibilities are endless! I found this Distressed Brown Wood Two-Tiered Tray on Amazon. Gnomes had become a huge trend lately so I add a little hand painted custom sign from Big Lake Trading Post and this larger Plush Gnome from Amazon. This adorable candle is from Abboo Candle Company and smells amazing. I also included a heart wood sign from Joann’s, greenery, letter H, wooden bead garland, and pink flowers. My kids always love having candy laid out for the holidays so I put some Hershey kisses in a bowl and the larger one made a great accent piece. That is until they figure out that one is edible too!
Mailboxes
One of my favorite traditions with our boys is the Valentine’s mailboxes. Check out my DIY Valentine’s Day Mailboxes link, on how to make them for your kiddos too. I fill them daily leading up to Valentine’s Day with a love coupon and ‘what I love about you’ heart that they tape to their door. I have also include 14 random acts of kindness and a small piece of candy in the past. Your kids will love looking in the mailbox each day for their special treat.
Kitchen
Go ahead and sprinkle some pinks and reds into your kitchen too. Fresh flowers always brighten the space. Maybe convince your hubby to buy your flowers early!
Front Door
Welcome guests with a fun Valentine’s Day door mat. I took off all the Christmas ornaments from my potted evergreen trees and tied a big red bow to them. Simple and easy! We can have harsh winters here so I don’t put a whole lot outside during this time of year. Next year, I have aspirations to make a festive wreath and door sign.
Fairy Door
Yes, even our fairy door is decorated to celebrate each holiday. From the little wreath on the door to the Valentine’s gift packages, it is all in the tiny little details. The boys stop and stare at it all the time and my littlest sneaks items away to hide in his room. Little stinker! Decorating for Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be over the top or expensive. Making a house a home with romantic touches can help create memories with your family. What are the ways that you decorate for Valentine’s Day?
