Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a bright and colorful way with the whole family. In our house we love celebrating all the holidays no matter how big or small. It was especially important that we continued with our St. Patrick’s Day breakfast tradition this year despite all that is going on in the world with the pandemic. For us we needed these moments of positive feelings and joy to take our mind off all of it if only for a short time. So go ahead, put on your green and celebrate with this fun St. Patrick’s Day breakfast.
The Set Up
This year the focus of the decorations was on the colors of rainbow. Since rainbows symbolize hope, it was just what we needed. Of course, I had to add in some buffalo plaid too. Here is where I purchased everything all the decorations.
- Tablecloth- Amazon
- Gold Sequin Table Runner – Amazon
- Gold Chargers – Amazon
- Paper Plates – Target
- Rainbow Napkins – DIY with fabric from Joann’s or Amazon
- Shamrock Napkin Rings – Amazon
- Mason Jar Mugs – Micheals or Amazon
- Straws – Amazon
- Rainbow Gable Boxes – Party City
- Mini Pot of Gold and Candy – Party City or Amazon
- Shamrock Chalkboard – Micheals (last year)
- Mini flags – Target
- Cake Stand – Micheals or Amazon
- Pancake Topper – Micheals
- Gold Coins – Amazon
The place setting was pretty similar to last year with just a new paper plate on top. I scored these festive plates with the rainbow from Target. Over the last few years, I have really enjoyed the designs of their party supplies.
Rainbow Backdrop
The statement piece in the room was for sure the rainbow fringe backdrop. It is actually easier than it looks to put together and consists of $1 plastic table clothes in every color of the rainbow. The plastic tablecloths, gold fringe door curtain, white balloons and balloon arch decorating strip were all purchased from Party City. The lucky balloon letters were found on Amazon (Party City was out of stock). To make the backdrop, I cut each of the tablecloths into 2 inch long stripes. Pro tip: cut them while the tablecloth is mostly folded with sharp scissors. Then tie each end of the tablecloth fringe pieces to your curtain rod in the pattern of the rainbow mixing in 2 inch sections of the gold fringe curtain.
Rainbow and Festive Food
There is just something about rainbows that brings us feelings of peace and serenity. It gives us hope! All this was perfect timing as to what we were trying to accomplish during this though time. We served up rainbow pancakes, rainbow yogurt, shamrock sausage, St. Patrick’s Day Dunkin Dounts, shamrock chocolate pretzels, gold Oreos, sugar cookies, and a rainbow fruit platter.
Shamrock Shake
It’s not St. Patrick’s day without a shamrock shake. These delicious mint chocolate Oreo shakes were a hit with the boys.
Here is the list of ingredients that you will need.
- Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
- Milk
- Vanilla Icing
- Mint green food coloring (for vivid color)
- Whipped Cream
- Rainbow bites candy
- Mint Oreos
- Mini Ice Cream Sandwhichs
- Cherries
Find the full recipe at Oreo Mint Chocolate Shamrock Shake.
Leprechaun Trap
The boys and I developed our leprechaun trap the night before St. Patrick’s Day and we hoped to catch him sometime during the next day. The boys checked the trap throughout the day since we were home….but turned up empty each time. The boys wanted to find his pot of gold! Maybe next year.
Favorite St. Patrick’s Day Books
For each holiday, I get out a stack of festive holiday books to go along with it. We started our St. Patrick’s Day book collection last year and loving all of these.
The time spent together celebrating gave us the chance to recover our minds, body, and spirit. So continue to throw confetti and create memories in your home even during uncertain times. Comment below with how you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
