Let’s Taco ‘Bout It: A Cinco de Mayo Party With Festive Cactus

Who’s ready for a fiesta? When Taco Tuesday falls on the same day as Cinco de Mayo, you have to celebrate! As a family, we always like to celebrate life to the fullest, but sometimes our busy lives get in the way. The current pandemic actually cleared our schedule and allowed for us to have the time to celebrate this year.

With our love of tacos, we have always wanted to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Although, I must admit that it was a little challenging to gather all the supplies. We decided last minute to have a celebration and due to COVID19 most of the stores were closed except for curbside service. With all the bright accents, tons of cactus, and a taco bar, we hope you find lots of inspiration for your next party.

Tablescape

With any fiesta, you can guarantee that the decorations will be bright and vibrant. The colorful decorations with the cactus and succulents make the winning combination. I just couldn’t get over how adorable the tiny cactus at each place setting were. The colorful fiesta plates were purchased from Kohl’s and the cactus from Lowe’s. All the rest of the decorations were purchased from Party City.

Build-Your-Own Taco Bar

You can’t have a Taco party without tacos! We set up a taco bar for each family member to make their own favorite combination. The chips were placed around a sombrero hat and made for the perfect decoration too. Salsa was poured in pepper shaped dip bowls all around the table. We had just about every kind of topping to make tacos and/or nachos. They don’t call it quarantine 15 for nothing.

On The Menu

Besides the taco bar, we also had chicken tortilla rolls, tropical fruit, and individual seven-layer dips. We finished with dessert delivered from a local Mexican restaurant. Chocolate churros, sopapilla cheesecake, and dessert nachos were a huge hit with the boys.

Taco Piñata

After dinner, each of the kids took turns swinging at the taco piñata. I decided not to fill it all with candy so I also included Hot Wheel cars, yo-yos, and fun erasers. We definitively could use some more candy-free options in the future.

Since we all love Mexican food, I see this being on repeat next year! Let’s be real we could eat tacos every Tuesday. Taco lovers unite! Share your favorite Cinco de Mayo recipes in the comments.
