Have you been Booed? If so you may be wondering what exactly to include in your baskets too. Do you add Halloween trinkets, books, glow sticks, candy or all of the above? There is no one answer to this question and no wrong answer either. However, in our home we like to get creative with our baskets, so here are a few ideas plus FREE printables to start this fun Halloween tradition too.
What is Halloween Boo-ing?
One of my favorite parts of the Fall holidays is the boo tradition. During the month of October a neighbor will start the Boo tradition by leaving a basket of Halloween treats along with a note saying “You’ve Been Booed”. This basket is delivered anonymously which is part of the fun. Our boys enjoy putting on costume masks to avoid all the camera doorbells and we sneak around delivering our baskets. They love ringing the doorbell and running!
Once you receive a Boo basket, then it is your turn to pass on the tradition. You make copies of the “You’ve Been Booed” signs and instructions. Then put one sign in your window and the other 2 copies in 2 Halloween treat baskets to spread the Halloween cheer!
For more details on the tradition of Boo-ing your neighbor then check out this previous post, Neighborhood You’ve Been BOOed Fun.
Here are some fun themed Boo basket ideas.
Halloween Cookie Decorating Basket
This one has been my go to for years and it is an oldie but a goodie. Simply put items in the basket to help the family make and decorate sugar cookies. Include sugar cookie mix, icing, spatula, sprinkles, cookie cutters, and anything else you think necessary to create yummy cookies.
Pumpkin Carving Basket
Another fun family activity that most everyone does is pumpkin carving. Include in your basket all the items for pumpkin carving such as carving tools, stencils, push in decorations, paint, Vaseline (pumpkin preserver), and battery tea lights. Pro tip: Cookie cutters can be used to help cut shapes in pumpkins too.
Pumpkin Spice Basket
Who doesn’t love pumpkin spice this time of year. In this basket include all things pumpkin spice from cookie mixes and candles to sugary sweets.
S’mores Kit Basket
Our favorite family Fall activity is roasting marshmallows around a cozy fire and making smores. Add all the items to make smores like graham crackers, chocolate bars, marshmallows, and roasting sticks to a basket. You could get fancy with flavored marshmallows, chocolate squares, cookies, and more.
Caramel Apple Basket
Each family member will have the best time creating caramel apples with this fun kit. Besides Apples, include caramel and chocolate dipping sauces, sprinkles, apple cutter, sticks, treat bags, and any other topping of choice.
Movie Night Basket
Watching scary movies during Halloween is a must on our bucket list. Give a family all the items to create a fun movie night at home. In a basket include a movie or Redbox giftcard, popcorn, popcorn toppings, candy, and maybe a few glow in the dark items.
