Are you looking for a fun yet practical gift for teachers? A teacher survival kit has been my go-to gift idea since 2020. We all know what happened then, so we don’t need to go down that rabbit hole! Our teachers have gained so much more appreciation for all that they do. So why not show your gratitude with a gift to start the year off right. Put together a basket of must-haves and a little something extra for the teacher to enjoy. Gift cards are great but with a little more effort you can DIY a basket full of classroom essentials too.
Here are some tips on creating your own Teacher Survival Kit plus FREE printables to finish off the project.
PICK OUT A BASKET OR A BIN
Target dollar spot or the Dollar Tree is a great place to start. Look for something that they can use in their classroom long after they used the last item. We found these bins for $5 each at Target and it can be used for classroom supplies later.
ADD A FILLER TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CONTAINER
It is all about presentation with this tip. By filling the bottom, you can prop up certain items and add height to the gift basket. This will make smaller items more easily seen too. Paper shred comes in many different colors, and you can find it almost anywhere now. Tissue paper is another great stuffing idea.
FILL YOUR TEACHER SURVIVAL KIT
We find it easiest to take your chosen container around the store with you to see what fits. A good place to start is in the travel toiletries section. Then move onto cleaning, school supplies, and snack sections of the store. Cover all the basics with supplies, sanitize, caffeine, chocolate, and carbs.
